CAF Awards 2024: Victor Boniface Expresses Disappointment Over Shortlisting Omission

According to a report by The Punch, Nigerian football star Victor Boniface has expressed his disappointment at being left out of the shortlist for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

  • Despite his stellar performances for Bayer Leverkusen last season, where he played a pivotal role in their historic Bundesliga and DFB Pokal triumphs, the 23-year-old striker was omitted from the list.
  • The nominees, announced last month, include Boniface’s compatriots Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong.
  • In an interview with BBC’s Oluwashina Okeleji, Boniface shared his feelings about the exclusion: “Of course, I’m disappointed not being shortlisted. If it’s what I did last season, I should be disappointed, but I don’t stress about it.”
  • When asked about his preferred winner, Boniface showed unwavering support for his teammate: “If I’m to pick the winner, it would be Lookman 100 per cent, and if I were there, I would pick myself.”
  • Boniface’s omission has sparked discussions among fans, given his significant contributions to Leverkusen’s success. Nevertheless, the striker remains focused on his career and supportive of his peers.
