Crude Oil Production Surges in Abia State

  • Crude oil production in Abia State increases from 8,000-10,000 barrels per day to 32,000 barrels per day
  • Local security firm, Okposon Security Services, credited for the surge in production
  • Firm’s engagement leads to reduced bunkering activities and increased motivation among local communities to protect oil pipelines

Crude oil production in Abia State has witnessed a significant surge, jumping from 8,000-10,000 barrels per day to 32,000 barrels per day in less than six months. This increase is attributed to the engagement of Okposon Security Services, a local security firm responsible for surveilling and protecting oil pipelines and installations in the state.

According to Mr. David Nwogu, Executive Director of Okposon Security Services, the firm’s efforts have led to a drastic reduction in bunkering activities in the region. The company’s strategy of recruiting local youths has also motivated the indigenes to protect oil pipelines, giving them a sense of belonging.

Okposon Security Services is working in collaboration with conventional security agencies to ensure smooth operations. The firm has also commended the Federal Government for engaging indigenous security firms to safeguard oil pipelines in the Niger Delta.

With the surge in oil production, Abia State’s revenue base is expected to increase. The company is committed to eliminating oil theft in the area and has warned the public about the dangers of illegal refineries and oil bunkering.
