Operation Whirlwind of the Nigeria Customs Service has successfully intercepted 94,550 liters of petrol valued at N75,450,900.00 in the bordering communities of Cameroon and Adamawa. The seized fuel has been auctioned to the public at a regulated price of N630 per liter. In spite of the adverse weather conditions, numerous motorists made their way to the filling station where the fuel was being sold at this controlled price.
The product was sourced from two trucks of fuel intercepted at the Adamawa state border communities. This development arrives as NNPC retail outlets in the state have raised the pump price to N1,090 per liter, while independent marketers are selling at N1,300 per liter.
The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, announced that Operation Whirlwind intercepted two trucks, each with a capacity of 33,000 liters, along with 1,046 jerry cans of 25 liters and 12 drums of 200 liters filled with PMS at the border. Represented by the Deputy Comptroller General of Enforcement, Investigation, and Inspection, Olaniyi Olajogun, he emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to protect the nation’s resources and ensure that the advantages of fuel price deregulation are fully enjoyed by all Nigerians.
