Death Toll in Lagos Building Collapse Now 2; 12 Rescued

  • Building Collapse: A three-storey building collapsed on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State, Nigeria, resulting in two deaths and 12 rescued victims.
  • Rescue Efforts: The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and other emergency responders rushed to the scene to rescue trapped victims. The prompt response was described as “swift, prompt, and effective.”
  • Building Occupancy: The ground floor of the building was occupied by an eatery, while the other three floors were unoccupied. The building was an old structure not under construction.
  • Cause of Collapse: The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but experts noted that unoccupied buildings can lose their integrity and strength over time, making them prone to collapse.

The Lagos State Government agencies, including LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, worked together to rescue victims and investigate the cause of the collapse. The rescued victims were taken to a hospital for treatment, while the two deceased were recovered and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Monitoring Unit.
