Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former House of Representatives member for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency of Edo State, has expressed confidence that the current economic hardship in Nigeria will not impact the party’s chances in the upcoming governorship election in Edo State, scheduled for September 21.
Agbonayinma attributed Nigeria’s problems to corruption, stating that it has deeply affected the country and that fighting corruption requires a collective effort from patriotic Nigerians ¹. He emphasized that corruption is a global issue, but Nigeria’s case is unique, citing the difference in how corruption is handled in Nigeria compared to other countries like America.
Regarding the APC’s preparedness for the election, Agbonayinma noted that the party is more prepared than ever, considering the people of Edo State have experienced bad leadership in various sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and road infrastructure .
Additionally, Agbonayinma alleged that a cabal under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration stole billions of dollars. However, he defended President Bola Tinubu, stating that he is not the cause of the country’s hardship, but rather a product of the corruption that has plagued Nigeria for years .
The APC’s confidence in the upcoming election is further bolstered by the party’s efforts to revamp infrastructure, including the Abuja-Benin road and Nigerian railway, within President Tinubu’s first year in office .
