The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a mega rally in Benin City, rounding up campaigns for the upcoming governorship election. Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Ilia Damagun, declared that the election would test Nigeria’s democracy and vowed that PDP would not be intimidated.
Damagun, alongside PDP governors and presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, addressed supporters, saying, “You have to kill or arrest all of us if you have to take this state… We will defend our votes with our blood.” Governor Obaseki described the election as an “existential threat,” while the party’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphous Wabara, urged INEC to ensure a peaceful and transparent process.
The National Campaign Council Chairman, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, warned against compromising the electoral process, and the chairman of PDP governor’s forum, Governor Bala Muhammed, reaffirmed the unity of PDP governors behind the party’s candidates. Atiku Abubakar urged the electorate to protect and defend their votes, ensuring they are counted and announced.
