The Edo State Government has taken a bold step in demolishing houses linked to suspected kidnappers in Illeh and Uromi. This move is part of the government’s efforts to curb kidnapping and ensure the safety of its citizens .
According to Mr. Akhere Paul, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, the demolition exercise is in line with the state’s law, which mandates the destruction of properties used for criminal activities .
The government has also warned landlords to properly screen their tenants before renting out their properties. This includes verifying their identity, workplace, and other details to prevent renting to potential kidnappers .
Two suspected kidnappers, Utubor Uchenna and Felix Ebama, confessed to using the demolished houses as hideouts for their victims. They also admitted to receiving a ₦10 million ransom from their last operation .
