Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has sworn in three new judges for the Edo State High Court, marking the end of a 17-month wait since their clearance by the National Judicial Council (NJC) in June 2023 .
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, and was a fulfillment of Governor Okpebholo’s promise to address the delayed appointments.
The governor emphasized the importance of impartiality in the judiciary, urging the newly sworn-in judges to uphold fairness and avoid discrimination or favoritism. He also reminded them of their responsibilities, including upholding high standards of conduct, ensuring fair dispute resolution, protecting citizens’ rights, and bringing offenders to justice.
