The Lagos State Task Force has impounded 82 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in a surprise operation at Mile 2 on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. The operation, which began around noon, aimed to enforce the state government’s ban on commercial motorcycle operators in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the scene turned chaotic as some motorcyclists attempted to flee, with some riders throwing stones and sticks at the task force operatives. Despite the chaos, the task force operatives managed to seize dozens of motorbikes, although no operators were arrested.
The operation was not limited to Mile 2, as other areas along the busy expressway, such as Second Rainbow and Toyota bus stop, also saw similar operations. Over 15 task force vehicles were stationed for onward operations in other parts of the state.
However, in a surprising turn of events, some commercial motorcyclists returned to work shortly after the operatives left, raising questions about the effectiveness of the task force operation and the government’s ban on commercial motorcycling in the area.
