According to local residents, the explosion was extremely loud, causing widespread panic. One resident, Aminu, described the scene: “Everyone ran into the bush for safety. The explosion was so loud that many thought it came from the hydroelectricity dam nearby.”

While the exact cause of the explosion remains unclear, residents have pointed to the poor handling of explosive devices by mining companies as a possible culprit. Another resident dismissed links to terrorist activities, stating that the incident appears to be an operational issue.

Community sources have confirmed that four bodies have been recovered, but the total number of casualties is yet to be determined. Authorities fear more fatalities, and investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the blast.

This incident is not the first of its kind in Niger State. There have been previous reports of explosions and mining-related accidents in the area.
