PARIS (AP) — A devastating car accident in France resulted in the deaths of four individuals after their Tesla vehicle struck a road sign and erupted in flames, according to local police.
The incident occurred Saturday night near Niort, France. Lieutenant Eric Hoarau, a police spokesman, stated that investigators are still working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
“Preliminary evidence suggests the vehicle left the roadway,” Lt. Hoarau explained, referencing marks on the ground and a severed road sign. “Unfortunately, there were no witnesses, which complicates our investigation.”
Tragically, the driver and three passengers suffered severe burns, rendering them unrecognizable.
Tesla has not yet responded to requests for comment.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash.
