Participants in the free medical service program
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has provided free medical services to over 3,000 residents in the Bwari area of Abuja as part of the Renewed Hope Medical Mission. The services included health promotion, antenatal care, immunization, HIV screening, diabetes and hypertension screening, dental health services, and nutritional assessment.
FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, emphasized the administration’s commitment to meeting the health needs of residents, particularly in hard-to-reach communities. She highlighted the importance of antenatal care, exclusive breastfeeding, and immunization in preventing childhood diseases.
The FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat’s Mandate Secretary, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, noted that healthcare is essential to life and that the FCT Minister has declared zero tolerance for maternal mortality. She added that health insurance has been declared free for pregnant women and children in the FCT.
Beneficiaries praised the initiative, with one expressing gratitude for the free services, saying it has made a profound difference in their lives. The Etsu of Bwari, Alhaji Ibrahim Yaro, commended the FCTA’s initiative, saying it has turned the city into a model of progress and sustainability.
