The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has clarified why former Senate President Adolphus Wabara was denied job slots for his constituents. According to the FCC, Wabara’s request fell outside their mandate as they don’t function as a recruitment agency. This explanation comes after Wabara alleged that his attempts to secure jobs for people in his wards were thwarted because he didn’t “drop any money,” implying bribery.
The FCC emphasized that their role is to monitor recruitment processes in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure fairness and equity. They also challenged Wabara to prove his claims, urging the public to disregard his allegations of a “bribe for FCC job slot”.
In a statement, the FCC’s Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Dr. Chuks Okoli, noted that Wabara was informed of the commission’s limitations during a visit to the FCC Executive Chairman, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, in March 2023. The FCC has maintained a strict adherence to the principles of Federal Character in recruitment since the Executive Chairman took office.
