The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the establishment of the National Citizens Value Brigade, aimed at promoting good morals and values among primary and secondary school students nationwide.
This initiative is a response to concerns over the gradual erosion of values among young Nigerians, leading to various forms of misconduct. The program seeks to instill a new culture of values that Nigeria can be proud of and raise role model citizens.
According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the Federal Executive Council approved several policy changes to strengthen Nigeria’s national value system. These changes include:
The introduction of a national value charter into basic and post-basic school curricula, focusing on civic education.
Standardization of national symbols, such as the national flag and currency.
Training on national values for government appointees.
Reorientation of Nigerians on proper display of national symbols through the National Orientation Agency.
Minister Idris emphasized the need to strengthen Nigeria’s national value system, citing the decline in values among younger generations. This initiative aims to address this decline and promote national pride and responsibility.
The National Citizens Value Brigade initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to fostering a culture of values and ethics among Nigerian youth.
