  • Months of Delays: The disbursement comes after months of delays following the approval in September 2024.
  • Phased Payments: Payments are being made in phases, with some corps members still awaiting disbursement.
  • Confirmation from NYSC DG: NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has assured that all payments would be completed.
  • Mixed Reactions: While some corps members are grateful for the increase, others argue that ₦77,000 is still insufficient due to the rising cost of living.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has finally started disbursing the new ₦77,000 monthly allowance to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This comes after months of delays following the approval in September 2024. Corps members from various states, including Kwara, Kano, and Yobe, have confirmed receiving the increased stipend.

However, it’s worth noting that the payments are being made in phases, leaving some corps members still awaiting disbursement. NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has assured that all payments would be completed.

While many corps members are grateful for the increase, some argue that ₦77,000 is still insufficient given the rising cost of living. Stella Abiodun, a corps member, remarked, “₦77k barely covers anything in today’s economy… Pressure works, and if we can make them increase this allowance, we can push for even bigger changes.”

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has also confirmed that the disbursement process had been finalized, paving the way for payments to commence. Despite the progress, uncertainties remain regarding full disbursement.
