The Federal Government has inaugurated flight operations at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna, Niger State. The airport, previously known as Abubakar Imam International Airport, was renamed in March 2024 in honor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the commencement of flight operations on April 23, 2025, in partnership with Overland Airways.
According to Keyamo, the airport will serve as an alternative to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Plans are underway to deploy necessary agencies such as Customs, Immigration, and Police to process passengers. Governor Umaru Bago highlighted the airport’s potential, stating it sits on 3,000 hectares of land with ongoing development projects, including a state-of-the-art terminal, aviation estate, and 1,000 kilometers of road.
