FREEE Recycle, tyre waste recycling and rubber manufacturing company, has said that the huge potential in the waste recycling sector is still untapped, even as it revealed plans to recycle two million tyres annually.
According to the firm, the value of waste tyres imported into Nigeria in 2023 alone, was about N108 billion.
Meanwhile, in commemoration of World Cleanup Day 2024, FREEE Recycle, restated its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s environmental sustainability through innovative recycling solutions and contributions to the circular economy.Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, Managing Director, FREEE Recycle, Ifedolapo Runsewe, said that the firm was born from a vision to address the environmental hazards caused by waste tyres in Nigeria.
She stated: “We saw an opportunity to transform this challenge into a solution and today as a pioneer in the tyre waste management industry, we have contributed to the countries economic and employment growth and our operations align with 12 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, demonstrating the wide-ranging impact of our integrated recycling and manufacturing model.
From inception to date, we’ve recycled well over 350,000 tyres. However, our goal is to be able to recycle two million tyres annually. The waste recycling sector has huge potential, and we are not tapping into it as much as we should.”She added that since its pilot launch in 2020, FREEE Recycle has grown into a commercially viable enterprise, demonstrating that tyre waste can be repurposed to create high-quality goods, thereby reducing environmental pollution and contributing to sustainable economic growth.
