Nollywood films Jagun Jagun and The Weekend dominated the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos, with The Weekend taking home the Best Film award and Jagun Jagun earning several accolades, including the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award for Femi Adebayo.
Hosted by Segun Arinze and Joselyn Dumas, the 20th edition of the AMAA awards celebrated excellence in African cinema, with winners determined by a 12-member jury committee chaired by filmmaker Dorothee Wenner.
The Weekend, directed by Daniel Oriahi, also won awards for Achievement in Cinematography, among others, while Jagun Jagun, directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo, took home awards for Achievement in Make-Up and Visual Effects.
The evening also saw notable recognitions, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for Souleymane Cisse, Nacer Khemir, and Haile Gerima, honouring their lifelong contributions to African cinema.
