Ghana is making a significant move to boost regional integration and mobility across Africa by scrapping its visa requirement for all African nationals. This policy change, approved by President Nana Akufo-Addo in December, aims to foster stronger ties across the continent .

As of early 2025, Ghana will join the ranks of Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin as the fifth African nation to offer visa-free access to all holders of African passports. This move is expected to have a positive impact on tourism, trade, and travel in Ghana, which has long been hindered by visa restrictions.

Prior to this decision, Ghana had already granted visa-free entry to citizens of 26 African nations and visas on arrival to travelers from 25 others, with only two African countries requiring visas prior to arrival. This new policy is a significant step towards enhancing regional integration and mobility across the continent.

It’s worth noting that the African Union has been pushing for visa-free travel within member states for many decades, and Ghana’s move is a significant step towards achieving this goal .
