    Ghana’s former President John Dramani Mahama has emerged victorious in the country’s presidential election, with his main opponent, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, conceding defeat. Bawumia acknowledged Mahama’s “decisive” win, stating that the people of Ghana have spoken and voted for change .

    This marks the end of the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) two terms in power under President Nana Akufo-Addo, which were marred by Ghana’s worst economic crisis in years, including high inflation and a debt default .

    Mahama, who previously served as president from July 2012 to January 2017, confirmed that he had received Bawumia’s congratulatory call over his “emphatic victory” . The NDC also won the parliamentary election, according to the NPP’s internal tally of votes .
