Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. The court found him guilty of causing the death of his wife on April 8, 2022.
The court’s decision came after a thorough trial, during which the prosecution called 17 witnesses and tendered 25 documents as exhibits. The defense also presented its case, with Nwachukwu testifying and calling four other witnesses.
Before sentencing, Nwachukwu’s counsel pleaded for leniency, while the prosecution urged the court to apply the law as stipulated. Justice Nwosu-Iheme subsequently handed down the death sentence for culpable homicide, as well as various prison terms and fines for other charges.
The sentence serves as a conclusion to the trial, which began with Nwachukwu’s arraignment on June 3, 2022, on a 23-count charge.
