    Gunmen, allegedly led by notorious bandit leader Danisuhu, have imposed a staggering N172.7 million levy on 25 villages in Zamfara State’s Tsafe West area. This extortionate demand is accompanied by threats of violence and requirements for in-kind contributions, including bags of soybeans .

    The situation is dire, with hundreds of residents abandoning their homes, farmland, and livelihoods in fear of violent reprisals for failing to meet the demands. The villages are now largely deserted, leaving behind ghost settlements .

    Locals are calling for urgent intervention from the Nigerian authorities to deploy more security personnel and establish permanent posts in Tsafe West. They also require emergency relief support for the displaced residents.
