Gunmen have struck again in Kogi State, kidnapping nine people from the Odo-Ape community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. This latest attack comes barely a week after three people, including an 8-year-old boy, were abducted from the same community.

Among those kidnapped is Hon. Alaba Ope, the newly elected councillor representing the Odo-Ape ward in the Kabba-Bunu Legislative Council. The councillor and eight others were picked from their homes by the gunmen, who struck at about 1 am on Wednesday, shooting sporadically before selecting their victims.

The community is now living in fear, with residents unsure of who will be the next victim. Seven of the kidnapped victims were residents in the community, while another person, Silas, was picked from Agbadu, a community that shares a boundary with Odo-Ape.

The people of Odo-Ape are calling on the security agencies and state government to help protect their lives and properties and secure the release of those kidnapped. Kidnapping cases have been on the rise in the local government, with two brothers kidnapped on their family land in Aluju, Kakun, and three others, including an 8-year-old boy, abducted in Odo-Ape just last week.
