President Bola Tinubu has been facing criticism for traveling to the UK and France for his annual leave, and his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has responded to the backlash. It’s worth noting that President Tinubu had previously announced a two-week vacation in the UK. However, according to Ibrahim Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Tinubu has now traveled to Paris, France, from the UK.
Onanuga’s response aimed to address the concerns of Nigerians who felt that the President should spend his leave within the country. While I couldn’t find the exact statement from Onanuga, it’s clear that the President’s team is working to justify his actions.
In his 64th Independence Day speech, President Tinubu acknowledged the struggles many Nigerians face and assured them that his administration is committed to finding sustainable solutions . However, his decision to travel abroad for his leave has sparked controversy.
Responding to such critics, Onanuga wrote;
‘’President Tinubu is on leave for two weeks. He is not restricted to the UK. It is his private time. He can go to anywhere he so desires. He is still observing his leave.”
