Helicopter Crash Update: 48 Hours On, Three Passengers Still Missing

•⁠ ⁠Rescue Efforts: Rescue teams resumed search operations at 07:30 am local time on October 25, 2024, expanding the search area to locate debris or signs of survivors.
•⁠ ⁠Investigation: The NSIB has commenced an investigation, with a team of aviation safety investigators and Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development representatives conducting interviews at the Nuim Antan facility.
•⁠ ⁠Search Operations: Divers established a secure diving perimeter at an expected location of the wreck, measuring 40-50 meters deep, with additional equipment and resources to be deployed.
•⁠ ⁠Casualties: No debris, survivors, or bodies were recovered during the day’s search.

More than 48 hours after a helicopter crashed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) reports that the debris and three remaining passengers have not been found. The Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, operated by Eastwind Aviation, was carrying eight people – six passengers and two crew members – when it crashed on its way to the FPSO-NUIMS ANTAN on Thursday.

The NSIB continues to explore possibilities of survivors, with ongoing rescue operations guided by global best practices.
