The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olatunbosun Oluyede, has unveiled plans to dismantle the Lakurawa terror group in the North-West. Speaking at the 2024 COAS Annual Conference, Gen. Oluyede assured Nigerians of the Army’s commitment to neutralizing threats to national security.
Gen. Oluyede revealed that Operation Fasan Yamma has been intensified to dismantle Lakurawa’s terror network. The operation involves enhanced intelligence gathering, rapid deployment of special forces, and synchronized air and ground offensives to control the region and eliminate threats. Additionally, local communities are being engaged for information-sharing to foster trust and unity in countering Lakurawa and other terror groups.
The Army Chief emphasized the importance of combining kinetic and non-kinetic measures to ensure lasting peace and safety in affected areas. To prevent fatigue and maintain morale, the COAS announced a systematic rotation of troops in operational theaters.
