Ibori-Suenu’s Defection: PDP Demands Fresh Polls in Ethiope Federal Constituency

  • The PDP cites Section 68 (1)(g) of the Constitution, which stipulates that a member of the National Assembly must vacate their seat if they join another political party before the expiration of their term.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded fresh polls in the Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency seat, following the defection of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the PDP, Ibori-Suenu’s defection renders her seat vacant, citing Section 68 (1)(g) of the Constitution ¹.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, stated that the party has formally communicated with INEC to conduct a fresh election within the constitutionally stipulated time frame to fill the vacant seat. The party has also directed its National Legal Adviser to initiate legal action to protect the mandate and votes of the people of Ethiope East/Ethiope West.
