The Federal Government has announced the full closure of the Ijora Bridge in Lagos from April 27 for critical repair works. The bridge, which connects Ijora Causeway to Apapa, is a major route leading to two of Nigeria’s busiest ports, Tincan and Apapa ports.

The closure is necessary due to the bridge’s deteriorating condition, particularly the defective bearings beneath the deck. Approximately 50 bearings will be replaced across three sections to ensure the bridge’s safety and prevent further deterioration.

To manage the expected traffic disruption, motorists approaching from Ijora will be redirected through Seven Up Roundabout to reconnect to Apapa, while heavy-duty vehicles will be diverted via Costain through Iganmu to access Apapa.

The Federal Ministry of Works has carefully planned the diversion routes and urges the public to cooperate to ensure the work is completed in time and the bridge is restored to a safer condition. The repairs will be the first major work on the Ijora Bridge since its construction decades ago.
