IPOB Bans Nigeria’s Independence Day Celebration in South-East

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has prohibited the celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day in the South-East region, effective October 1, 2024.

In a statement, IPOB declared that participating in any activity marking Nigeria’s independence would be considered hostile to the Biafran cause. Instead, Igbo individuals should go about their normal business or remain at home.

The separatist group views Nigeria’s independence as detrimental to the Igbo people, citing historical marginalization and oppression. IPOB is pursuing the restoration of an independent State of Biafra.

The group directed parents and guardians to prevent their children from participating in Nigerian independence activities, warning that violators would be seen as enemies of the struggle.

IPOB emphasized that no Nigerian flags should be flown in Biafran territory and that school independence activities are strictly forbidden.

By imposing this ban, IPOB reaffirms its commitment to achieving Biafra independence and protecting the rights and interests of the Igbo people.
