    Residents of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, are celebrating the restoration of pipe-borne water supply after a 9-year hiatus. The water supply resumed on January 19, 2025, with residents waking up to find water flowing from their taps. This development has brought joy and relief to the community, which had relied on wells, boreholes, and sachet water for years.

    Governor Francis Nwifuru has been commended for his efforts in rehabilitating the state’s water schemes. Residents expressed gratitude for the restoration of public water supply, which will reduce their expenses on buying sachet water and improve their access to clean drinking water.

    The Acting Commissioner of Water Resources, Franklin Chikaodili Ukah, monitored the water supply and warned landlords and caretakers to repair and safeguard their water pipes and taps to avoid wasting water. The Ezilo water scheme has commenced supply, while the Oferekpe scheme is completed and awaiting a test run.
