Kaduna State Secures Three Rape Convictions, Two Sentenced to Death

Kaduna State has recorded significant convictions in rape cases, with two individuals, John Moses and Yakubu Mohammed, sentenced to death by hanging for a two-count charge of rape. Additionally, Mustapha Musa will serve a life term for a similar offense.

According to Hajiya Rabi Salisu, Commissioner of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Services, these convictions were secured between June 2024 and February 2025. The ministry hopes that these convictions will serve as a deterrent to potential offenders .

One of the convictions was secured on June 7, 2024, before Hon. Justice Nana, where John Moses was found guilty of rape and incest under Section 258 of the Penal Code Law 2017. He was sentenced to death by hanging and surgical castration.

Kaduna State’s Ministry of Human Services and Social Development has secured convictions in three rape cases between June 2024 and February 2025. Two of these cases resulted in severe punishments .

· Yakubu Mohammed’s Case: Yakubu Mohammed was convicted on two counts of rape under Section 258 of the Penal Code Law 2017 and sentenced to death by hanging and surgical castration on February 6, 2025.
· Mustapha Musa’s Case: Mustapha Musa was also convicted on two counts of rape under Section 258 of the Penal Code Law and sentenced to life imprisonment on February 24, 2025.
· John Moses’ Case: Another individual, John Moses, was sentenced to death by hanging and surgical castration for rape and incest in June 2024.

These cases were handled by M.P. Danjuma Esq. and Halimatu S. Bello Esq. The commissioner described these convictions as a positive development, hoping they will deter others from committing similar crimes .
