Malnutrition Killing Katsina Children
The Katsina State Government has received a significant donation of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) valued at N400 million to combat acute child malnutrition in the state. This provision is expected to benefit over 8,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition, in addition to 1,400 nutritional supplements procured for distribution to children with non-severe malnutrition cases.
During a handover ceremony at the Ministry of Agriculture Warehouse in Katsina, UNICEF kCountry Representative, Cristian Munduate, highlighted the joint procurement of RUTF by the state government and UNICEF through the Child Nutrition Match Fund. Munduate emphasized the critical role of these supplements in saving the lives of children with severe malnutrition.
Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda acknowledged the state’s high prevalence of child malnutrition and expressed gratitude for UNICEF’s support. He reassured the public of the state government’s commitment to addressing the issue.
The handover ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including UNICEF Campaign Champions, Ali Nuhu and Rahama Sadau, as well as top UNICEF officials.
