US-Based Nigerian Filmmaker Kelechi Eke Launches Odenigbo Cultural Club to Preserve Igbo Language and Culture
After a decade of promoting African cinema through TAFF and VILLAFFEST, Kelechi Eke has embarked on a new mission: preserving Igbo culture and language.
The Odenigbo Cultural Club, founded by Eke five years ago, recently held its inauguration ceremony in Dallas, showcasing Igbo attire, language, and tradition.
Eke’s passion stems from UNESCO’s report warning of Igbo language’s potential extinction within 50 years.
“I celebrate Igbo culture’s rich tapestry, encompassing art, music, dance, language, and spirituality,” Eke said. “Our philosophy emphasizes unity and collective responsibility.”
Odenigbo Cultural Club aims to:
- Teach Igbo language in universities and colleges abroad
- Establish an Igbo museum in Dallas, Texas
