The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project is being constructed with cutting-edge engineering standards to withstand flooding for the next 50 years. Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, stated that the road’s elevation will be higher than the first floor of many surrounding buildings, and retaining boards and cable ducts will prevent service providers from cutting into the road.

Umahi emphasized the project’s environmental sustainability, highlighting the use of concrete pavement to reduce emissions and earn carbon credits for Nigeria. The highway will also feature CCTV cameras for enhanced safety and rapid response times. Additionally, the project includes significant infrastructure developments, such as a massive flyover at the Dangote Refinery and “relief centres” with amenities for travelers.

The minister commended stakeholders for their support and praised Hitech Construction Company, the project contractor, for its dedication and timely delivery. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project is a significant infrastructure development aimed at improving connectivity and driving economic growth in the region.
