    The Lagos State Government has issued a 48-hour removal notice to traders and property owners blocking drainage channels along Ereko, Oke-Arin, and Idumota Markets on Lagos Island. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, explained that the drainage channel, which serves to deflood the entire market area, has been blocked by squatters’ illegal activities and obstructive structures .

    This blockage has significantly contributed to the recent flooding in the area, posing a serious threat to lives and property. Wahab stressed that the government must take action to redress the various human activities that have totally blocked the drainage system.

    The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources will begin removing the illegal structures after the eviction notice expires. The government advised residents to avoid indiscriminate waste disposal and maintain the drainage channels to prevent flooding .
