Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is set to break ground in November for a 3,000-hectare agribusiness industrial hub in Eruwa, located in the Ibarapa East Local Government Area of the state. This announcement was made by the Director General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, Dr. Debo Akande, during an exclusive chat.
- The disclosure regarding the agribusiness hub came in response to inquiries about replicating the Fashola Agribusiness Industrial Hub in other zones of Oyo State.
Dr. Debo Akande, Director General of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, confirmed that assurances from investors have been secured for the Eruwa hub focused on agricultural purposes.
- The planned Eruwa agribusiness hub will span 3,000 hectares, making it three times larger than the Fashola hub, which is 1,000 hectares.
- Akande stated, “We are going to be breaking the ground for another agribusiness industrial hub next month. It will happen in Eruwa. It is 3,000 hectares and will be three times the size of Fashola; it will be called Eruwa Agribusiness Industrial Hub.”
- In discussing the impact of the Fashola farms on neighboring communities, Akande noted that the products from the farm are utilized locally rather than being exported..
- Akande acknowledged that public reservations stem from the belief that goods from the farm are not sold at open stalls.
- He emphasized that products from the Fashola hub primarily remain within Nigeria, despite being available at shopping malls and large businesses.
- Akande also dismissed the idea that the Fashola agribusiness hub should address the challenges facing the agricultural sector, stating that it is intended to serve as a model for other states to emulate.Following the completion of the Eruwa agribusiness hub, the Ijaye business hub is scheduled to be the next focus for the state government.
