Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has a reassuring message for the country’s teachers: their hard work and dedication will be rewarded on earth, not just in heaven. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja to commemorate the 2024 World Teachers Day, Mamman acknowledged the challenges teachers face, including difficult working conditions and low pay.

Despite these challenges, Mamman noted that teachers remain committed to their students and the nation, contributing significantly to human capital development. He commended their resilience and passion, emphasizing that the government values the teaching profession and is committed to enhancing their professionalism.

Some initiatives aimed at supporting teachers include establishing specialized universities of education, implementing bursary policies in Nigerian universities, bilateral agreements with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to facilitate international engagements, and prioritizing teacher welfare despite economic and security challenges.

Mamman urged teachers to continue striving for excellence, embracing contemporary teaching methods, research, and technology. He also encouraged stakeholders to listen to teachers’ voices and recognize their worth.

The Minister’s statement aims to boost teacher morale and acknowledge their vital role in shaping Nigeria’s future.
