A recent report has revealed that the Federal Government spent approximately N701 million on First Lady Remi Tinubu’s foreign trips to five countries over a three-month period.
The trips, which took place between November 2023 and March 2024, included visits to the United States, France, Mozambique, Ethiopia, and London.
According to the report, the government paid out the funds through the State House headquarters transit account for the purchase of foreign exchange for the trips.
Additionally, a total sum of N314 million was spent on six programs of the First Lady within four months.
The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership has criticized the spending, stating that the office of the First Lady is not recognized by the constitution and therefore should not be allocated funds.
The organization’s Executive Director, Debo Adeniran, described the spending as “profligacy” and “misappropriation of funds.”
