Naira Strengthens Against Dollar in Black Market Trading

A Bureau de Change operator in Wuse Zone 4 confirmed that the naira appreciated against the dollar on Wednesday.

  • The Nigerian naira strengthened slightly to N1748 per dollar, up from N1755 on Tuesday, marking a gain of N7 in the parallel market.
  • In contrast, the official market saw the naira close at N1660.83 against the dollar, a marginal decline of N1.43 from the previous day’s N1659.40.
  • FX transaction turnover fell to $337.03 million on Wednesday, down from $425.98 million the day before.
  • This shift follows the Central Bank of Nigeria’s latest intervention, which set a minimum trade requirement of $100,000 in its new Electronic Foreign Exchange system.
