NAPTIP Accuses Akwa Ibom Hospitals of Organ Harvesting

The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has made a disturbing accusation against some hospitals in Akwa Ibom, alleging their involvement in organ harvesting. This claim was made by Emmanuel Awhen, the State Zonal Coordinator of NAPTIP, during the National Human Trafficking Awareness Day 2025.

Awhen revealed that approximately 750,000 to one million children were abducted in Akwa Ibom for trafficking and other exploitative purposes between 2021 and 2024. He also disclosed that the agency had secured 60 convictions of human trafficking offenders during the same period, with 15 cases still pending in court.

The NAPTIP coordinator emphasized the severity of human trafficking, highlighting the emotional and psychological dangers it poses to victims. He urged continued sensitization of communities against the dangers of human trafficking.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Eno Ime Akpan, commended the collaborative efforts of NAPTIP and the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) in combating human trafficking in Akwa Ibom.
