Nigeria’s national electricity grid has collapsed, plunging the country into darkness. This latest collapse occurred at approximately 6:18 pm on Monday, October 14, 2024, with power generation dropping from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 pm to zero gigawatts by 7 pm and 8 pm.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the grid collapse in a statement, informing its customers of a general system collapse that occurred at 18:48 hours on October 14, 2024. This collapse has resulted in the loss of supply across the EEDC network, affecting customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
The affected areas include Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. The EEDC is currently on standby, awaiting detailed information on the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre in Osogbo.
Meanwhile, the Abuja Disco has assured customers that they are working with relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized. This is the latest in a series of grid disturbances in 2024, underscoring the need for urgent attention to address the underlying issues affecting the national grid.
