The Nigerian Navy has intensified efforts to secure the maritime borders of the country, deploying 15 warships and three helicopters for the 2024 Chief of Naval Staff sea exercise. The exercise, aimed at curbing maritime threats and improving security in the Gulf of Guinea, will also showcase the navy’s ability to protect the maritime environment for national economic prosperity.
According to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the exercise will leverage cooperation with maritime stakeholders through information sharing to strengthen collective capabilities in achieving national security objectives. Ogalla noted that the Nigerian Navy’s maritime security operations have recorded significant improvements in legitimate shipping activities due to a reduction in crimes in Nigerian waters.
