NDLEA Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking: Canadian Woman Arrested, N9 Billion Worth of Opioids Seized

In a significant blow to drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted over 13 million pills of opioids and 338,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup worth N9 billion at Port Harcourt Ports, Onne, Rivers State ¹ ² ³ ⁴. The drugs, concealed in three containers from India, were discovered during a joint examination with Nigerian Customs and other port officials.

Key Arrests and Seizures

  • Canadian Woman Arrested: 41-year-old Adrienne Munju was apprehended at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, with 74 parcels of Canadian Loud, a potent synthetic cannabis weighing 35.20kg ¹ ² ³ ⁴.
  • Other Arrests: Abubakar Shuaibu Ibrahim, Pako Thomas, Emmanuel Anyigor, Chibuzor Okafor, Bolanle Ajenifuja, Ezekiel Akpele, Elijah Michael, and Goddard John were arrested in connection with various drug seizures.
  • Drugs Recovered: 100 parcels of Canadian Loud (50kg), 80 blocks of cannabis (38kg), and 700 litres of “skuchies” were seized in Lagos and Taraba State.

NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse

The agency’s nationwide campaign includes sensitization programs in schools, religious centers, workplaces, and communities. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers involved in these successful operations, acknowledging their efforts in balancing drug supply reduction and demand reduction initiatives.
