The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced significant achievements in its war against narcotics in August 2024. The agency recovered N280,389,068.08 from forfeited assets, made 1,821 arrests, and seized 142,291.3kg of illicit substances. Additionally, 415 suspects were charged, resulting in 414 convictions and asset forfeitures, while 49.63 hectares of cannabis farms were destroyed.
The NDLEA also apprehended two major drug barons, Alhaji Sulaiman Jimoh and Alhaji Suleman Ganiu Aremu, and conducted 338 public enlightenment activities. Furthermore, 949 individuals were treated and rehabilitated through the agency’s drug demand reduction efforts.
These efforts demonstrate the agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and promoting a safer Nigeria.
The Alternative Development Programme, supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, aims to eliminate or prevent illicit crop production and improve the quality of life for target populations. The NDLEA’s Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, emphasized the agency’s dedication to staying ahead of drug cartels through advanced training and certification programs for its officers.
