- An investigation by the Nigerian Police Force has revealed that some officers stole N43.16m from a total of N74.9m being transported on behalf of clients.
- The officers, who were found to have acted illegally, declared only N31.7m of the recovered amount.
- The police have denied allegations of currency smuggling and have sanctioned the officers involved, who will face dismissal and prosecution for criminal conspiracy and theft.
Note: The incident occurred on August 26, 2023, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, and the officers involved have been identified as DSP Peter Ejike, Inspector Ekende Edwin, Inspector Esther Okafor, and Sergeant Talabi Kayode.
