Niger Signs Agreement with Nigeria Sugar Council to Revitalize the Country’s Sugar Industry

Niger Foods partners with Nigeria Sugar Development Council to revive the USD 2.5 billion sugar industry.

  • Plans include developing 250,000 hectares of sugarcane fields and constructing 6 sugar/ethanol plants in Niger State over the next 3 years.

  • A deal was signed with Uttam Sucrotech during a side event of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, involving leading sugar value chain experts from Brazil and India.
  • The Niger Farms project will utilize about 90,000 hectares along the Sokoto-Lagos Super Highway, with expected production of 2.5 million metric tons of sugar, 250 million liters of ethanol, and generation of 300 megawatts of electricity.
