Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to remain optimistic and resilient in the face of current economic challenges. Speaking at an inter-denominational thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of St. Peters, Asaba, to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, Oborevwori emphasized that tough times don’t last, but tough people do [1).
He acknowledged the hardship caused by inflation and economic reforms but encouraged citizens to stay hopeful and united. Oborevwori expressed confidence that Nigeria will soon experience a new phase of prosperity, peace, unity, and progress.
“The situation we are in calls for creativity, innovation, determination, patience, and resilience on the part of everybody – the leaders and the governed,” he stated. “We should never stop praying for Nigeria, no matter the situation, because God’s will is for us to pray and we must also match our prayers with the right confession.”
Oborevwori also stressed the importance of speaking positively about the country, noting that decision determines destiny. He encouraged citizens to use their words to pray for peace, unity, and development.
Additionally, the Governor addressed the issue of substandard project delivery in the state, warning that he will not tolerate poor workmanship. He also announced plans to establish a hotline for direct public feedback and pledged to pay workers’ salaries on or before the 26th of every month.
The Bishop of Asaba, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev’d Kingsley Obuh, echoed Oborevwori’s sentiments, urging Nigerians not to be discouraged but to give thanks to God despite the challenging situation ¹.
