Nigeria and Cuba have taken a significant step to strengthen their bilateral relationship with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to deepen cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, healthcare, science, and technology.
According to Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the visit by his Cuban counterpart, His Excellency Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, is a significant milestone in the relationship between the two countries. Tuggar highlighted the long-standing ties between Nigeria and Cuba, dating back to 1974, and noted that Cuba has played a key role in supporting Africa’s fight against colonial and racist regimes.
Rodríguez Parrilla praised Nigeria’s progress and expressed appreciation for the country’s longstanding support for Cuba against international sanctions. He also affirmed Cuba’s deep cultural and ancestral ties to Nigeria, describing the West African nation as integral to Cuba’s identity.
This development is not the first time Nigeria and Cuba have collaborated. In 2023, the two countries signed an MoU to enhance collaboration in the field of innovation, science, and technology. They also signed an MoU on food security and agricultural advancement.
