Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on lawmakers to ensure that the tax reform bills promote justice, fairness, and equity. Atiku made this call in a post on his official X handle on Sunday, emphasizing that Nigerians are united in their demand for reforms that do not deepen uneven development.
The four tax reform bills, which passed second reading at the Senate, are the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024; the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024; the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2024; and the Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024.
Atiku urged lawmakers to follow due process, ensuring that the final content of the bills aligns with the interests of the majority of Nigerians. He also called for transparency and objectivity in the public hearing process, allowing participation from all stakeholders.
