Thankfully, NIWA’s routine water patrol team received a distress call around 5 pm on Monday, November 4, and quickly swung into action to save the two young men, aged 23 and 25, who were almost drowned and gasping for breath.

According to Mr. Bola Oyebamij, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NIWA, the rescue operation was successful, and the victims were resuscitated and handed over to their families. Unfortunately, their sand boat and its contents were completely submerged .

This incident highlights the importance of NIWA’s efforts in ensuring safety on Nigeria’s inland waterways. As an agency responsible for regulating and developing the country’s inland waterways, NIWA has been working tirelessly to prevent such accidents and provide aid when necessary .
